The unforgettable vision of a sunset over Lake Kariba, the vast elephant herds of Hwange, the ancient rock art, scenery and wildlife of Matobo and the mystery of the Great Zimbabwe Ruins are just some of the sights which combine to offer you the best of Zimbabwe within a full and memorable week.
**DAY 1: LAKE KARIBA** Victoria Falls has been called ‘Africa’s adventure capital’ and has something for everyone. Allow yourself some extra time before the tour for the many optional activities*. The group meets late morning and sets off for Lake Kariba where we take a cruise. Hippo, crocodile and fish eagle are common sightings from the boat. Back on shore, we eagerly wait to capture an impressive sunset on film, before supper around a campfire.
**DAY 2: HWANGE** Leaving the lake we continue on to our bush camp which borders Hwange National Park. This magnificent park is one of the last great elephant sanctuaries, where up to a hundred of these giants may be seen at any one of the many watering holes. Venture out on an afternoon game drive in open safari vehicles.
**DAY 3: BULAWAYO** We drive to Matobo National Park and spend a half day exploring these ancient hills of history. In this unusual landscape with its strange rock formations, are fine examples of Bushman rock paintings and the site of Rhodes''s grave at World''s View. Bulawayo is our host for tonight.
**DAY 4: ANTELOPE PARK** Travel to Gweru and camp in Antelope Park which offers the incredible experience of game viewing accompanied by lions*. This walk through the bush, with young lion roaming free beside you is unforgettable. Equally memorable is taking the option to ride high on the back of elephant, on land or while they swim*. The whole African experience here is remarkable.
**DAY 5: MASVINGO** We pack up at lunchtime and continue to Masvingo. Explore the ancient ruins known as the Great Zimbabwe National Monument which gave the modern nation its name (Zimbabwe, meaning “House of Stone”). These massive constructions, with their conical towers, were once at the center of a rich and powerful kingdom trading in ivory and gold.
**DAY 6: TSHIPISE** Passing majestic baobab trees, we head towards the border. Roadside curio stalls offer a last chance to take home a small piece of Zimbabwean art. Crossing the Limpopo River at Beit Bridge takes us into South Africa. We camp at the mineral springs resort of Tshipise.
**DAY 7: JOHANNESBURG** Enjoy a final swim in the relaxing and refreshing spa waters before the drive south to Johannesburg, where our journey ends mid-afternoon.
* Optional, at own expense.
