This trip departs on Monday night and returns on Friday morning.
The June 18th, August 27th and October 8th trips depart on Friday night and Return Tuesday Morning.
**Day 1** We arrive at the crystal clear MERCED RIVER in YOSEMITE VALLEY for sunrise and breakfast with a view followed by a make your own sandwich extravaganza. Everyone then has a range of choices from strenuous but very rewarding day hiking (optional $10 shuttle bus), to shorter climbs up waterfall trails, or maybe just sitting by the river in a sunny meadow marveling at the 1,000 meter face of EL CAPITAN or HALF DOME. The ANSEL ADAMS GALLERY, bicycling, guided horseback riding, and swimming are also available. Late in the day, we''ll regroup and head toward Yosemite''s high TIOGA PASS (9,945'' - 3031m) and a sunset dinner cook-out at a nice spot along the way. Late evening finds us arriving in the spectacular EASTERN SIERRA NEVADA at a beautiful natural hot spring and a starry desert campsite.
**Day 2**After a cookout breakfast (luscious berry pancakes with fresh fruit salad?), we usually call on our Eastern Sierra guide-naturalist to take us through a restful day of just the right deserts, high mountains, and American Indian country, as well as to MONO LAKE with its extremely salty and buoyant water and strange mineral formations called tufas. We''ll spend some time floating and hiking, and after rinsing off in fresh water, we''ll arrive at a secluded, undeveloped campsite for dinner and a campfire party.
**Day 3** Another tasty Green Tortoise breakfast is followed by a visit to the high country of Yosemite Park where you''ll have several options. A lazy, flowery stroll and splash in the lovely TUOLUMNE MEADOWS and River, an intermediate climb up LEMBERT DOME, or a rugged and exciting, guided ALPINE ADVENTURE HIKE to over 11,000 feet. The alpine hike takes five hours and provides a snowy, roof-top view of Yosemite and its alpine lakes experienced by few visitors to the park. We then return to San Francisco at about 6AM via a last delicious dinner at the awesome TUOLUMNE GROVE of GIANT SEQUOIAS, and for the truly adventurous, a late stop at the oldest continuously operating saloon in California!
Note: We visit many environments in the course of the Yosemite adventure, so anything from valley heat to a near freezing night is possible. Your food fund payment of $46 covers all national park fees and meals, except lunch on the 2nd day when we visit Bishop, California.
