Darwin to Alice Springs With 3.5 days, we’ll show you the Stuart Highway deserves much more than a 20 hour express ticket. Cool off in Litchfield’s picture-book waterfalls, marvel at giant termite mounds, kayak Katherine Gorge (extra cost), relax in Mataranka’s palm-fringed thermal pools, quench your thirst in Daly Waters Outback Pub and take in a desert sunset and sunrise at the Devils Marbles.
**Day 1 Litchfield National Park** The Waterfalls Way! Palm fringed ‘postcard’ waterfalls and giant magnetic termite mounds of Litchfield National Park are less than two hours out of Darwin. Here, the Tabletop Range is a spring-fringed plateau giving life to several spectacular year-round waterfalls. Cool off with a swim in the clear waters of Florence Falls and Buley Rock-hole. Inspect the world’s largest ant cities - towering magnetic termite mounds. Refreshed, lunched, and back on the highway, we can grab a quick coffee at Adelaide River with ‘Charlie’ the Water Buffalo before heading to Edith Falls to set up camp – and another chance for swimming!
**Day 2 Katherine Gorge & Mataranka Springs** More swimming than driving! Katherine Gorge is not far away. Our half-day gives you the opportunity to canoe or take a leisurely cruise under the sheer cliffs of Australia’s most famed gorge. From Katherine to the thermal springs of Mataranka takes just over an hour. Camp tonight and enjoy a BBQ dinner.
**Day 3 Daly Waters Pub & Devils Marbles** Big Beers & Big Balls We can’t leave before another swim in the springs! Down the track, Daly Waters Pub is a popular refreshment stop – we’re in the beer-garden for lunch beside the pool. Did you know the airfield was once the arrival point for Qantas travellers to Australia? Tennant Creek is definitely one of Australia’s frontier towns! We bush camp at the Devils Marbles. Bring plenty of film to get sunset, moon and sunrise shots over these mysterious granite spheres.
**Day 4 Alice Springs** Destination The Alice First stop is Wycliffe Well, firmly on the Alien Map of Australia. At Ti Tree we can visit the Red Sands Art Gallery for local indigenous artworks. The Tropic of Capricorn also rates a stop before we knock over the last kms into The Alice for lunchtime arrival.
Not Included: $60 Kitty to be paid CASH at check in. Includes 3 nights camping, 3 breakfast, 3 lunches, 3 dinners, national park feesAs from 01APR04 the kitty will be 50AUD cash to be paid at check in. **during the wet season we might be forced to upgrade into bunkhous
