Alice Springs to Darwin With 3.5 days, we’ll show you the Stuart Highway deserves much more than a 20 hour express ticket. Cool off in Litchfield’s picture-book waterfalls, marvel at giant termite mounds, kayak Katherine Gorge (extra cost), relax in Mataranka’s palm-fringed thermal pools, quench your thirst in Daly Waters Outback Pub and take in a desert sunset and sunrise at the Devils Marbles.
**Day 1 Alice Springs** We leave The Alice just after lunch (not included). First photo stop is the Tropic of Capricorn. At Ti Tree we can visit the Red Sands Art Gallery for local indigenous artworks. Last stop is Wycliffe Well, firmly on the Alien Map of Australia. We bush camp at the Devils Marbles. Bring plenty of film to get sunset, moon and sunrise shots over these mysterious granite spheres.
**Day 2 Devils Marbles & Daly Waters Pub** Tennant Creek is definitely one of Australia’s frontier towns! Down the track, Daly Waters Pub is a popular refreshment stop – we’re in the beer-garden for lunch beside the pool. Did you know the airfield was once the arrival point for Qantas travellers to Australia? Camp tonight at Mataranka Springs and enjoy a BBQ dinner.
**Day 3 Mataranka Springs & Katherine Gorge** More swimming than driving! From the thermal springs of Mataranka to Katherine Gorge takes just over an hour. Our half-day gives you the opportunity to canoe or take a leisurely cruise under the sheer cliffs of Australia’s most famed gorge. Tonight we set up camp at Edith Falls and have another chance at swimming.
**Day 4 Litchfield National Park** The Waterfalls Way! Palm fringed ‘postcard’ waterfalls and giant magnetic termite mounds of Litchfield National Park are less than two hours out of Darwin. Here, the Tabletop Range is a spring-fringed plateau giving life to several spectacular year-round waterfalls. Cool off with a swim in the clear waters of Florence Falls and Buley Rock-hole. Inspect the world’s largest ant cities - towering magnetic termite mounds. Refreshed, lunched, and back on the highway, we aim to be at Darwin by 6pm.
Not Included: 60AUD CASH Kitty to be paid at check in for 3 nights accommodation in bunkhouse or camping (depends on weather conditions), 3 lunches, 3 dinners, 3 breakfasts, national park fees and GSTAs from 01APR04 the kitty will be 50AUD Cash to be paid at check in *
