Upon arrival, we can enjoy the facilities fantastic view of the Bay. There are several fringe reefs in this area, all excellent snorkeling destinations. Formations include Brain and Sheet coral, Sea fans, Staghorns and Rods. As we explore the reefs, it is likely that we will see schools of Snapper, Angels, Jacks and Blue tang. Other possibilities include Parrotfish, Trunkfish, Damselfish and Fire worms. Our exciting day comes to an end with a typical Caribbean lunch, and a visit to Portobelo, home to the famed Black Christ, and the site of several fortress ruins. This port City has a rich history. In the late 16th century, Sir Francis Drake, the English pirate, entered this body of water and launched his attack on Nombre de Dios. The Spanish fortresses failed to prevent him from sacking this wealthy port.
Itinerary:
08:00 Transfer to Buena Ventura.
09:30 Arrive in Portobelo
10:00 Snorkeling equipment is issued, and our guide offers instruction on water safety.
12:00 Caribbean lunch with your favorite cold beverage.
14:00 Transfer to Portobelo
15:00 Depart for Panama City
NOTE: Participants will use a new snorkel, which may be taken home at the end of the day. On day trips, additional snorkeling sites may be requested.
