The idea behind Sea Gypsy Village Resort and Dive Base, which has been operated by the Wills family since mid-1992, is simple. We wanted an island resort where people could relax totally in harmony with nature (sounds nerdy but try it, more beneficial than an expensive spa!) for a reasonable price. We are lucky that Sibu Island is so easily accessible no matter where you're coming from.
This is an island resort where you can sleep in a clean room with a decent bathroom, drinkable water, soft towels and a nice big fan that runs 24 hours a day. An island resort where the only decision you have to make is what to drink. The alcohol is reasonably priced, the food is tasty and plentiful, the kitchen clean.
An island resort that is romantic for lovers, great for the sporty, paradise for kids, therefore heaven for parents. And please, let's never forget the party animal (hence the bar that never closes!).
An island resort that has a professionally run dive base where we can convince you about the glories of diving and teach you right through to instructor level, failing which we'll take you snorkelling.
At Sea Gypsy Village Resort & Dive Base there are no phones, no computers. Hand phones and pagers don't work. We constantly watch our guests suffering withdrawal symptoms from everyday life but the magic of Sibu Island and Sea Gypsy and the dive base always works. We can make a beach bum out of anybody!
Pulau Sibu forms part of the Seribuat chain of islands and lies 12 kilometres off the east coast of the West Peninsular of Malaysia. Tanjong Leman is the boat pick up point for Pulau Sibu and is approximately 2 hours north of Johor Bahru on the Mersing Road. The island is shaped like a triangular hour glass, about 6 kilometres long and never more than one kilometre wide it's whole length.
The word for island in Malay is Pulau, so in actual fact Sibu Island is locally called Pulau Sibu.
