Olomouc (pronounced 'Ollamoats'), is a beautiful, friendly and manageable city and a great place to get a feel for the historic eastern half of the Czech, Moravia! At Poets' Corner we'll make you feel at home.
A small, welcoming hostel, Poets' Corner is very close to Olomouc's stunning town centre. Our English-speaking staff can direct you to the best and most affordable restaurants, internet cafés and entertainment venues. We can advise you on the many daytrips from Olomouc and help you plan more travel throughout the Czech and Europe. You'll find enough information and suggestions to keep you busy for a week, and enough space to curl up with your book or enjoy a game of chess and a good cup of tea.
The Hostel has four to six beds per dorm, a clean kitchen, laundry service, no curfew or lockout, a book swap and a cosy common room.
Olomouc is the ancient capital of Moravia and boasts a treasure trove of eastern european architecture. The cobbled streets and squares of the city centre are lined with renaissance palaces and gothic burghers' houses and dotted with baroque fountains. The many churches and cathedrals tell of the city's important role in the Czech's religious history. The historic main square features the UNESCO-listed Column of the most Holy Trinity as well as the striking 15th century town hall, with it's famous socialist astronomical clock.
Olomouc is a city of 100,000 people and has the vibrant social and cultural life that you would expect from the home of the nation's second university .
Easy daytrips include the spectacular castles, Bouzov and Helfstyn, the Javoricko caves complex, the UNESCO-listed Archbishops' chateau at Kromeriz, and the outdoor museum of traditional wooden architecture at Roznov pod Radhostem.
Stopping in Olomouc is also an excellent way to break the long journeys between Prague and Krakow, Budapest or the Tatras.
