Join us on a fascinating tour of the old areas of San Polo & Santa Croce. San Polo is traditionally the city''s commercial quarter. Here the bankers, brokers and merchants conducted their affairs by day, and the renowned courtesans by night! In a city where the east met the west, exotic items like silk and oriental spices were traded along with copper and wood. Many of the courtesans lived in sumptuous apartments, were accomplished musicians and brilliant conversationalists, they were even secretly used as spies for the State! Venice was also the first port of call for the pilgrims in departure for the Holy land since medieval times.
