**The Tour**
Departing from County Hall on the South Bank this tour will take you to the City of Westminister followed by a ''splash-down'' into the Thames.
Bring a camera because you will be passing by the
London Eye- billed as the world''s highest observational wheel The Eye stands a whopping 135 metres high on the South Bank between Waterloo and Westminster Bridges, right opposite Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament and provides stunning views over central London and beyond.
Houses of Parliament- The Houses of Parliament, otherwise known as The Palace of Westminster, stands on the site where Edward the Confessor had the original palace built in the first half of the eleventh century. In 1834 a fire broke out which destroyed much of the old palace, all that remained was the chapel crypt, The Jewel Tower and Westminster Hall. It was Lord Melbourne, the Prime Minister, who saved the great hall by arranging for the fire engines to be brought right into the hall and personally supervising the fire fighting operation.
Downing Street-No 10 Downing Street is a historic building that is also a place of work. It is a symbol of Government known the world over and is the home to the Prime Minister and his family. From the outside, the plain Georgian frontage with its famous black door appears too small to accommodate all these roles. Inside, the building opens out to reveal a series of elegant state rooms, used both for official receptions and everyday meetings. Offices for the staff of the Prime Minister''s Office are crammed into every spare space.
Trafalgar Square- London''s most famous square was laid out in 1829 to 1841 to commemorate Nelson''s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Trafalgar Square is also famous for its pigeons. The local authorities try to discourage people from feeding them, but the pigeons are still very popular with Londoners and visitors alike.
Ritz Hotel- The Ritz, London. Few other places can summon such an immediate atmosphere of unparalleled style, sophistication and elegance. Opened in 1906, the Ritz today still retains the personal feel of a French country house whilst offering all the glamour, excitement and graceful living that are synonymous with this legendary, World famous hotel.
Westminster Abbey- An architectural masterpiece of the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries, Westminster Abbey also presents a unique pageant of British history - the Confessor’s Shrine, the tombs of Kings and Queens, and countless memorials to the famous and the great. It has been the setting for every Coronation since 1066 and for numerous other Royal occasions.
Lambeth Palace-Lambeth Palace has been the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury since around 1200 A.D., and its interior remains partly mediaeval, although there are examples of Tudor, Gothic and Neo-Gothic architecture within its walls. The Palace contains a library, which is open to the public and the gardens occasionally open as part of the National Gardens Scheme.
...And then we return to County Hall.
**An adventure in London for all the family** and the perfect way to decide which wonderful sites you would like to see in detail...
