Top sights with Wayward Bus: ·Seal Bay- guided walk to Sea Lion colony ·Flinders Chase National Park - famous for it’s wildlife ·Remarkable Rocks – you’ll think aliens put them there ·Admirals Arch – spectacular home for fur seals ·Cape Du Couedic – next land from here is Antarctica ·Little Sahara – giant white sand dunes ·Stokes Bay – great beach and unique rock tunnel
**Day 1 – South Coast**
Depart Adelaide at 6.45am on the Sealink coach-ferry transfer, via the Southern Vale vineyards, over the hills and down the coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis. Sail across Backstairs Passage on the ‘Sealion 2000’ to Penneshaw for 10am.
Meet your cheerful Wayward driver-guide – then it’s not far to our first stop at Hog’s Bay, home to the friendly and very approachable Tamar wallabies. About midday we’re on the South Coast for a lookout stop taking in views across the Island. At Seal Bay observe the lives and loves of giant rare Sea Lions as they surf, play, spar, make-up again and snooze. Clamber over the sand dunes of ‘Little Sahara’ then stretch your necks finding koalas in the trees of Hanson Bay Sanctuary. Kangaroo Island Wilderness Resort offers Hostel style or private en-suite rooms.
**Day 2 – North Coast** This morning we explore Flinders Chase National Park: Admiral’s Arch is home to a colony of frolicking fur seals. Nearby, Remarkable Rocks are fabulous, especially for photographs in the contrasting morning light. Cape du Couedic lighthouse marks KI’s southwest tip.
Turning our attention to the North Coast, Snellings Beach is our favourite lunch spot. At Stokes Bay a rock tunnel leads to an idyllic beach and rock pool - bring the swimmers on a hot day. A visit to Parndana Wildlife Park completes the natural experience - just in case we missed anything cute ‘n furry! Kingscote is KI’s ‘capital’ – take a stroll around the harbour and along the cappuccino strip.
At Penneshaw there’s time before the 7.30 pm late ferry for evening meals (not included). Returning via Sealink ferry and coach, arrival in Adelaide is between 10.30 and 11.00 pm.
Stay longer on the Island? Ask us how! Travellers wishing to have more time on the island may choose to take coach-ferry departures from Adelaide to Penneshaw on earlier days - or return form Penneshaw to Adelaide at a later date. Services are twice a day. Please advise when booking.
