Alice to Alice Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon & Rainbow Valley
Don’t get ripped-off rushing the Rock! Not only is Wayward’s 3½ day tour the stand-out deal, it does Uluru justice with two nights to give double chances of viewing sensational sunsets and sunrises, there’s more hiking – plus spectacular Rainbow Valley. It also returns in time for Ghan departures.
With ‘double-daily’ departures, Wayward offers travellers a choice of starts, at 7.00am or 12.00noon. Afternoon departures travel straight to Uluru on day one in time for Sunset and do the itinerary in reverse, ending with Rainbow Valley.
**Day 1 – Rainbow Valley & Kings Creek Cattle Station** Doing it differently… Rainbow Valley is just over an hour out of Alice and accessed by a dirt road. With great spiritual significance, the craggy, colourful features of Rainbow Valley are also popular with photographers. Arriving mid-afternoon, there’s plenty to do and see at Kings Creek Station including camel rides, quad bikes, helicopter flights and the station’s stock show. Camp at Kings Creek Station with a choice of tents or swags.
**Day 2 – Kings Canyon to Uluru** Time is on our side… The full Kings Canyon Rim Walk takes 3 plus hours, led by your driver-guide. Admire the sandstone domes of the Lost City, sheer cliff top views along the North and South Walls, and the almost tropical Garden of Eden – if it’s a warm day, the waterhole’s beaut for a swim. After lunch we head for Uluru and Kata Tjuta through vibrant red sand dune country. Late afternoon we settle in to our camp for the next two nights. The Uluru Sunset is stunning – and we have the time to see the complete show.
**Day 3 – Uluru & Kata Tjuta** Here comes the sun! Although it happens every day, Uluru sunrise is a defining moment. At Uluru we recommend the full 9km Base Walk. Of special interest are the many sacred sites and the Mala and Mutitjula waterholes – small springs that have provided the life source for plants, animals and people since the Dreamtime. With our driver-guide’s commentary, free ranger-led interpretive walks and time in the excellent Visitor Centre, you will begin to understand the story of life in the shadow of Uluru. You can climb if you choose but the Anangu traditional owners prefer visitors not to. After lunch, hike the Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta (3 hours, we guide). Enjoy another spectacular sunset.
**Day 4 – Yulara to Alice Springs** Return to Alice via the Lasseter and Stuart Highways for arrival by 12.30pm. Connects neatly with the Ghan train, Fri & Tue 1.00pm to Adelaide. We will drop off at the Aboriginal Art & Cultural Centre, accommodations, the railway station or airport.
Included: please note as from 01 April 2004 the 25AUD per person National Park fee for Uluru-KataTjuta NP is no longer included and must be paid cash on departure.
Not Included: Double Daily Departures!please contact us if you prefer a departure at 12pm
