At the beginning of 1998, Ingibjörg Torfhildur Pálsdóttir and Eiður Örn Eiðsson bought this old Hostel and established a Hotel in Grundarfjörður. The premises were built in 1954 as a Hostel for Faeroese fishermen and fish workers. The ground floor was used as boat sheds and baiting rooms. The first floor was the actual hostel, with sleeping quarters and a canteen, while the attic was used to store fishing equipment. For some years, the Hostel was converted into a Hotel during the summer and run by the town council. It was called Hotel Fell. Then in 1976 two fish factories bought the Hostel and used it to house their own workers.
Part of Hotel Framnes was opened in June 1998. Most of the renovations took place over the next two years when the entire building was refurbished. The attic was converted into 13 en-suite rooms and the ground floor was converted into a conference room and health centre. Today the Hotel contains 20 en-suite rooms with multi-channel TV and a hairdryer. There are two dining halls that can seat up to 180 people. The hotel’s health centre consists of a sauna, gym and sun beds.
Right from the very beginning, the main aim of the owners was to create a warm and homely atmosphere where each individual feels like part of one big family.
