**3 DAY – West COUNTRY TREKKER**
**DAY ONE**
We escape the smog and pollution of London, current capital of England, and take off for Winchester, ancient capital of England with its cathedral - burial place of England’s Saxon Kings and Jane Austen. Passing the very photogenic Salisbury Cathedral, which has the highest spire in the UK, we’ll travel through Hampshire and into the quaint rural county of Wiltshire with it’s thatched cottages, leafy lanes and village cricket pitches. We’ll stop for lunch at world famous Stonehenge, the 5000 year old standing stone circle that has baffled scientists and amazed the rest of us for centuries!
After lunch we’ll meander through Dartmoor national park, home to faeries, pixies and giants and scene of many a mystery. Then it’s off to our destination for this evening, the famous seaside town of Torquay, on the English Riviera and home to the cult TV show Fawlty Towers.
**DAY TWO**
We’ll head out early next day and explore some more of Dartmoor, home to ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’, stone age relics, standing stones and wild ponies. Then it’s off to Devon and into Somerset…. Cider Country!! After a wee sample of England’s scrumpy cider, we’ll head on to Exmoor and go for a walk in England’s coastal national park before following in the footsteps of the legendary Kind Arthur, to the mystical Avalon, modern day Glastonbury, where we spend our second night. Legend has it the Abbey is the burial place of Arthur and his wife Guiniviere and also the birthplace of English Christianity. Then a wee stroll up to the Glastonbury tor, before a party in England’s most hippy hostel.
**DAY THREE**
Our last day begins with a visit to England’s answer to the Grand Canyon, Cheddar Gorge, a huge crevice in the landscape and home to cheddar cheese. Then it’s off to see the splendour of one of the jewels in England’s crown, the magnificent town of Bath, home to the most impressive Georgian architecture in England. Bath is like a living museum, home of Britain’s finest Roman remains, including the Baths(!) the Jane Austin museum, and numerous Kings, Queens, Poets and lovers throughout the centuries.
Before beginning our descent into London, we’ll explore the medieval village of Lacock, the film set for ‘Pride and Prejudice’, with its magnificent abbey and timbered houses which have remained unchanged for 200 years.
We’ll arrive back in London at approximately 5.30pm.
