**Day 1**
London - St. Briavels Castle
No time to waste as we head straight out of London and on to the spectacular cathedral of Gloucester, only one of six which survived the wrath of Henry VIII''s religious reforms after the Pope refused him a divorce from the missus. It is also the burial place of Edward II, first Prince of Wales but if he''s not familiar you may recognise the setting to Harry Potter''s movie. We drive through the 800 year old Forest of Dean and then the industrial valleys of (old) South Wales - home of coal mining, close harmony singing and Welsh rugby heroes. Other awesome stops are Caerphilly, Europe''s largest ruined castle and Chepstow, a walled town built on the River Wye by the Normans for protection from the mad Welsh and subsequently subjugation... We then visit Tintern Abbey (another victim oh Henry''s rage) but inspiration to Romantic poet Wordsworth - when you see the ruin set in a picturesque valley you will know what made him put pen to paper! We spend the night in 13th Century St. Briavel''s Castle where a medieval feast awaits! **Day 2**
St. Briavels Castle - Fishguard
We begin the day by driving up the famous Wye Valley and spend the morning exploring the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park. Then on to the Gower Peninsula and the fabulously named village of The Mumbles. We journey to the most westerly point of Wales where St. David''s is situated - Britain''s smallest city. It is also where the eponymous patron saint of Wales is buried. We pay a visit to the famous well that is rumoured to cure all known ills and then home for the night is the small ferry port of Fishguard. **Day 3**
Fishguard - Caernarfon
We explore the Preseli National Park where the blocks used to build Stonehenge were quarried - how did they get them across to Salisbury Plain in England?! It''s also the ancestral home of Big Elvis - unconfirmed sightings are common... We visit some ancient standing stones and then visit a valley where the old Gregorian calendar is still in use - 12 days behind the rest of the world! We then drive up the Cardigan Heritage coast through the university town of Aberystwyth and then in to Snowdonia National Park. We visit Castel y Bere, the last stronghold of the last independent Welsh prince - Llewellyn the Great. Then through Welsh speaking Wales and a visit to Port Meirion seaside village, built by one man and a maze of Morroccan, Spanish, Greek, Italian and Roman architecture. Finally we head through Snowdonia''s steep valleys and on to the walled castle town of Caernarfon which has one of the most spectacular castles in Britain, built by Edward I. **Day 4**
Caernarfon - London
Our first stop is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, which is claimed to be the world''s longest palce name - you''ll be able to spell it without looking once we leave. We pass Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales (and England) at 1085m and then through Gwydyr Forst to Betws-y-Coed, the Welsh outdoor capital. We journey on to Llangollen, home to the Welsh Language Festival and then pass through the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution once we are over the Welsh border - canals, iron bridges and aqueducts that went on to influence the development of the World. Our final stop before we head back to London is the beautiful town of Stratford upon Avon where the Bard himself was born, William Shakespeare and many of the homes he and his family lived in have been lovingly restored to their former glory.
