Discover the South Australia Outback between Coober Pedy and the Flinders Ranges.
Top spots Coober Pedy - opal mining outpost Oodnadatta Track - the legendary trail Lake Eyre - Australia’s biggest salt lake Wilpena Pound - spectacular landscapes
**Day 1 - Alice to Coober Pedy (LD)**
Discover opals! Depart Alice at 7.00am. The first 200kms is to connect with our tour at Erldunda. Travel is then by mini-coach continuing down the Stuart Highway to Coober Pedy, coming in through the Breakaways. Accommodation is in an underground bunkhouse.
**Day 2 - Coober Pedy to Oodnadatta Track (BLD)**
Enter the Desert! This morning we’ll show you around Coober Pedy. From here we leave the highway and follow a dirt road east through a variety of desert landscapes to William Creek Pub on the Oodnadatta Track. We camp tonight in swags at William Creek.
**Day 3 - Oodnadatta Track to Angorichina (BLD)**
Out of the Desert! The Oodnadatta Track follows the ruins of the Old Ghan Railway. The mound springs are unique geological sights. Lake Eyre, Australia’s biggest salt lake, is 12m below sea level. For many years in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Marree was the rail-head and staging point for camel caravans to Queensland and the Northern Territory. Turning south we find the ochre pits from where aboriginal people sourced and traded their painting materials. The end of the day takes us though Parachilna Gorge into the Flinders Ranges and Angorichina, our bunkhouse accommodation.
**Day 4 - Angorichina to Wilpena Pound (BLD)**
Loads of hiking! The ancient and rugged Flinders Ranges are one of the top sights in South Australia. Stretching for hundreds of kilometres, the Flinders mix a palette of reds, purples and greens. Our tour allows several hours of walking time at both Angorichina and Wilpena and in-between traverses some of the best scenery. We camp at Wilpena.
**Day 5 - Wilpena Pound to Adelaide (BL)**
Raise your glasses! We can include more walking this morning, especially if yesterday was hot, before travelling through the historic towns of Hawker, Quorn and Melrose toward the Clare Valley vineyard district. From here it’s not far to the end of the journey in Adelaide about 7.00pm.
Not Included: Important: all accommodation pick ups are to be reserved at least 24 hours before departure of the tour.
