We arrive in New York City and have a couple of hours for dinner. Our NYC pickup is at 7 pm, outside 718 West 178th St., opposite the George Washington Bridge bus station. We leave New York after we''ve loaded and then drive through the night. **Day 2** We arrive early in the morning at Claytor Lake State Park in Virginia for our first cookout breakfast and a swim. After breakfast we''re off to Shenandoah in the Blue Ridge Mountains. or **Day 2** (alternate route) Arrive in the morning at Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Here in North Carolina, not far from where the Wright brothers first took to the air, we spend all day at the beach enjoying the solitude and later ride the ferry to the mainland. Tonight we drive. **Day 3** Early arrival at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for breakfast and hiking. We''ll leave about mid-day and arrive at Cooper''s Creek in Georgia, where we''ll have dinner and camp (optional) for the night. or **Day 3** (alternate route) We''ll have a cookout breakfast en route to Okefenokee Swamp where we rent canoes and mingle with the alligators. (This schedule puts us a day ahead and we will find an amazing camp spot in the southwest instead of Cooper''s Creek. Tomorrow we are in New Orleans and the following days are the same as the first route, after Day 5.) **Day 4** We have all day to play under the waterfall at Cooper''s Creek or we could leave early and go to Okefenokee Swamp and wrestle alligators! **Day 5** After a night drive, we''re in New Orleans for cajun food, zydeco music, and traditional jazz. We''ll stay late to sample the night life on Bourbon Street! **Day 6** A day at the beach on the Gulf of Mexico at Galveston, Texas. Then on to Palmetto State Park for dinner. **Day 7** We have an early morning arrival at Big Bend National Park where we''ll spend the next two days. This is one of our favorite places on earth-with it''s incredible panoramic views, great hikes and desert wildlife - we just can''t get enough of this place! we may start with a short hike into Santa Elena Canyon , to a nice little beach with excellent mud, before soaking weary muscles in historic Big Bend Hot Springs, or ferrying across the Rio Grande to a tiny Mexican village. We''ll camp that night just outside the park. **Day 8** This day is for doing all the things you didn''t do the day before. Maybe a visit to Chisos Basin, maybe hanging out in Rio Grande Village...a night drive to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. **Day 9** After breakfast you''ll have plenty of time to explore the gigantic, historic Carlsbad Caverns. Then we go to El Paso and cross the Rio Grande to Juarez, Mexico for dinner and night life. **Day 10** An early arrival at Chaco Canyon to explore the many-roomed ruins of the ancient Anasazi civilization. After dinner at Chaco, we''ll head out overnight to.... **Day 11** Kodachrome Basin State Park in Utah for a secluded overnight campout under the stars. A mellow horseback ride is available or you can take a peaceful walk amongst the colorful sandstone formations. Watch your step; you don''t want to walk on the cryptobiotic soil! **Day 12** A morning arrival at Bryce Canyon National Park. This place is very beautiful. It looks like candy land! Hike the Fairyland Loop trail. Then we''ll make the drive to our camp at a Riparian study area next to a beautiful creek. **Day 13** Zion National Park. Hike to Angels Landing and experience the heavenly view or visit the Emerald Pools. After dinner in the peaceful grotto, we''ll drive to Las Vegas for a few hours of neon madness! **Day 14** Breakfast in a small California town, and after we drop our L.A. bound passengers in Bakersfield to make a greyhound connection, we''ll head up through the great central valley of California and arrive in San Francisco before sunset.
