Depart Nadi after free Breakfast at Nadi DownTown Backpackers Inn in a shuttle. Visit the largest Hindu temple in the Southern Hemisphere and is a ''must stop'' for visitors wishing to experience the cultural and architectural diversity for which Fiji is well known. The three-part Sri Siva-Subramaniya temple is dedicated to the deity Murugan whose statue, specially carved in India, is housed in the main temple. The second part of the complex is Ganesh temple, while the thirds section is the Meenakshi and Shiva Temple. Then travel south on the Queens road through sugar cane fields, Indian settlements, and Fiji’s pine forest cresting a hill 30 minutes later from which you will have a spectacular view of Yanuca Island and the Fijian Resort. A stop at Sigatoka Sand Dunes where you will discover the archaeological excavations on the eastern end of the dunes have revealed a unique sample of ancient Fijian civilization. Initially several skeletons were collected dating from around 5BC to 240AD. These skeletons form only a small part of a more substantial burial complex. Over 50 individual remains have been excavated as part of the ongoing archaeological programme. Sigatoka Sand Dunes are also rich in ancient pottery artifacts that continue to surface as the processes of erosion and accretion continues. These artifacts are said to be the remains of pottery from the LapitaEra, giving important clues to the origin of the early inhabitants of Fiji. The Park area comprises of native forest (Casuarina and Pandanus) near the coast, a reforested area inland, introduced herbaceous plant communities and the largest dune complex in the Pacific Islands leading down to a windswept high energy beach. The surrounding sea has no finging reefs. The western end of the Park is important in that it provides a typical and now rare example of natural Fijian beach forest. There are 165 recorded plant species growing in the park. The park supports a small population of reptiles and migratory birds.
The tour will take you on to Sigatoka Town for shopping, Sigatoka Agriculture Research Station and Tavuni Hill Forest where you will view a restored ancient Tongan hill fortification right in the middle of Fiji. Expert guides who are descendants of its Tongan ancestors will lead you around the fortress remains pointing out and explaining the sites of significance. You will also be given a commentary on the rich history of the people who lived there, a real insight into pre-colonial Fijian life. (Additional F$6.00) and then to Kalevu Cultural Center, which is one of the pleasant, discoveries you’ll make during your tour. You will have a guided tour around the Fijian village (Bures) whereby in the first bure you will be greeted and have a traditional Sevu Sevu Kava greeting ceremony. 2nd bure Explanation of war club 3rd bure - How chief of the olden days use to live and their life style. 4th bure - Bure Kalou (also known as temple) Next to the bure Kalou the guest gets to see a fijian meke. After the Fijian Meke you can have a delicious Fijian Lunch (Lunch Own Expense). After Lunch depart for a trek into a spectacular upper reaches of Sigatoka Valleys, where you can view Indian, Fijian Settlements and to bushes and have fun. Then depart for the White Sandy beach called Natendola Beach. It’s an 8 mile long white sandy beach where you can do horse riding, swimming, etc.
