**WHAT IS THE BEERFEST?**
The Oktoberfest is by far the biggest party or event of its kind in Europe. Every year a huge non-descript park in the middle of Munich called the Theresenwiese (known locally as the Wies''n) is transformed into a massive fun fair party. Half of the Wies''n is covered by some amazing rides, side shows, food stalls and schnapps tents. The other half boasts 13 beerhalls. Like everything about the Oktoberfest the beerhalls or tents are big. Each local brewery has their own beerhall which seats over 4000 people inside and 2000 in surrounding beergardens. Seated at tables you are served steins (1 litre jugs) of the local brew by the frauliens, entertained by oompah bands...the atmosphere is fantastic. The Oktoberfest always finishes on the first Sunday in October. This year it runs for 16 days straight beginning at noon on Saturday September 21 and finishing on October 6. It''s history is fairly simple - back in 1810 Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxon and a huge celebration party was thrown in the Wies''n. It was such a success they decided to repeat it the next year and so on. Now about 7 million people go to the Oktoberfest and consume over one million gallons of beer. It is free to enter the fest grounds and beerhalls - unfortunately you have to pay for your beer! We are the largest UK operator to the Beerfest with coach and flying Tours covering all three weekends. In 2001 PP Travel took over 1400 people to Munich for the Beerfest.
**WHAT TOURS DO WE OFFER?**
There are a wide variety of Tours for you to choose from. We have six-day coach/camping Tours covering all three weekends of the Oktoberfest, departing London early Thursday afternoon and returning the following Tuesday. For those who want a bit more from a tour we also offer an 8 day coach/camping tour (first weekend only) which includes a tour to Austria and the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. For those looking for a bit more comfort we have our 7-day Austrian Chalet tour . It covers the opening, spends as much time at the Beerfest as our camping tours, with the added bonus of staying in a lakeside chalet in magnificent Achenkirch, Austria - just over an hour''s drive from Munich. For those wanting to go just for the weekend, our flying Tours are ideal. We offer fly/hotel and fly/camping packages for all weekends of the fest. We offer scheduled flights to Munich from five UK airports and you can choose from a number of city centre Hotels or join the party with us at Munich''s camping Thalkirchen. Fly/campers enjoy all the Tours and shuttles offered to our coach passengers.
**CAMPING TOURS, WHERE DO WE STAY?**
PP Travel stays at Munich''s famous Camping Thalkirchen each year. Thalkirchen is located only 3km from the Beerfest grounds, just a short 10 minute PP coach shuttle or three stops on the underground.
