Amazon light brigade With Forum Travel International Departing from Quito , Ecuador

On a couple of the harder trails we have arrange the possibility of a bailout for those who are tired. Generally, a hard day - easy day alternation is planned. All of the campsites have a rustic kitchen/ dining room constructed in the traditional style of the region. The toilet facilities are latrines. All tents are set on a bamboo platform with a thatched roof. The tents are roomy and contain roomy camping mattresses, each with a comfortable pillow. Clean sheets and towels are provided daily. Kerosene lanterns light the campsite; however, a personal flashlight is required.

A logistical team of 15 makes the whole thing possible. They will have all in order by the time we get to camp. They will carry your packs, the wine and maybe even a tune or two.

SAMPLE RANDOM ITINERARY

DAY 1: Morning flight from Quito to Coca. Motorized canoe trip of two hours to the lodge. Lunch. Storage of valuables in Hotel safe. Change into field clothes (we suggest that the clothing used for arrival and departure be left at the lodge to keep them from being s oiled). Afternoon walk to first campsite. Your introduction to the Amazon Jungle begins 100 paces past the lodge with LA SELVA''s impressive Canopy Observation Tower.

DAY 2: DEATH MARCH! About 8 hours hiking at a leisurely pace. Leave at daybreak, spend day the strolling through paradise and arrive at camp for a swim
before cocktails. The hike takes us in virgin rainforest on more or less level ground. We eat a picnic lunch and saw more marvels than we could absorb.

DAY 3: No need for a bailout here. We begin the day with an early morning look a countless numbers of parrots and other birds right by the lake. We then make a foray or two into the surrounding jungle. After lunch we will teach you a bit about native handicraft. You can even try your own hand at it. Swimming and canoeing will occupy the remainder of the day.

DAY 4: Now that you have learned how to paddle, we will hike to the Panayacu
River, whose name means Piraña!!! It is a river well-known for you-know-what, and we explore to a remote section which virtually no one has ever traveled. It is spectacular. Next , with your newly acquired ace paddling technique (as well as a native to help you) we paddle for a few hours, in places ducking under low-hanging canopy, hacking with the traditional machete, until we arrive at another trailhead. Here we hike once more to the Indian community of Sani Isla. (Trip subject to river conditions). We respect the privacy of the Indians and we do not believe that Indians should play a part in ecotourism, but because The Light Brigade is so small, we can usually find somebody to talk to us about their lives. Hopefully, we will be able to see how they live, what they farm, etc.

DAY 5: There are so many ways to experience the rest of this expedition, that a short list must suffice: Visit a salt lick where thousands of parrots come each morning; from our Napo campsite go to the high forest which has yet another entirely different ecosystem, and in one spot a view for miles; return to the lodge for a private tour of our Butterfly Farm; other hikes; other rivers; make a new trail...let your imagination run wild to grasp the full scope of what is possible.

On DAY 6 your valuables and clothes will be returned to you in the afternoon. A feast will be prepared for the evening meal: a celebration among friends, a toast to life and the amazing Amazon Rainforest.

DAY 7: Return to Coca by motorized canoe in time to catch your flight back to Quito.

Please note: flights Quito/Coca and Coca/Quito operate daily EXCEPT FOR SUNDAYS. If your Amazon Light Brigade itinerary ends on a Sunday, you will have to book an extra night at La Selva.
