What’s Included Accommodation: Hotels and Camping Meals: All meals while camping Excursions: Amazon Jungle – Chan Chan ruins Transport: Bukima Vehicle – Boat – on foot Staff: Tour Leader and Driver **Day 1 & 2:** Quito, the second highest capital in Latin America after La Paz is very much a city of two halves. From the Old Colonial City center, where pastel-colored houses and ornate churches line a warren of steep and narrow streets, to the New City north of the colonial centre an altogether different place, Its broad avenues are lined with fine private residences, parks, embassies and villas. It is here where you will find Quito''s main business and tourist area. Departing Quito we move east through Tena the capital of Napo Province once the most easterly of Ecuador’s early colonial missionary and trading outposts to a small town some 25kms further into the jungle. Misahualli is a hive of activity its active little port being the main departure point for the surrounding jungle lodges.
**Day 3, 4 & 5:** Departing Misahualli on our boat trip down the Arajuno River were we spend the next two nights in the jungle. During the days we spend time with a local expert taking walks to learn about the plants and animals of this part of the Amazon basin. We also have time to visit a local Kichwa Indian family to see how times have changed for them. And what would a trip to the jungle be without a visit to the local shaman seeing how they use the local rainforest plants and animals for medicinal preposes.
**Day 6:** A tranquil start as we return to Misahualli then head out towards Baños through some amazing mountain roads that will thrill you with their beauty, stopping along the way for people to take photos and maybe even try a bridge swing to get the adrenalin going. Tonight you could soak and relax in the hot springs or enjoy the nightlife that is on offer in Ecuador’s activity capital.
**Day 7:** While you are in Banos it is the perfect opportunity for many outdoor activities. The list is endless. Horse back riding, mountain biking and hiking to name a few. Or take a night trip to the local Volcano, Banos will give you the chance to push your limits or to relax and enjoy the local sights making it one of the highlights for any visitor to Ecuador.
**Day 8 & 9:** Heading south along the ‘avenue of volcanos’ to what people say is the most beautiful colonial city in Ecuador. The Cobblestone streets, markets and the blue dome of the new Cathedral all come together to make Cuanca. Visiting the local Panama hat factory where you can see how these famous hats are made, the story goes that the hats can be rolled up and slipped through a wedding ring. Don’t try this one at home. (The hat rolling that is) **Day 10:** Leaving Cuanca we drive through the mountains and banana plantations on our way to the coast, were we say goodbye to tropical Ecuador and cross the border into Peru were we spend the night beach camping. Punta Sal is a seaside resort area for local Peruvian’s who travel to the area to surf and get away from the big cities to the south.
**Day 11 & 12:** Today we head through the vast expanse of the saturá desert with its flowing sand dunes and amazing colours before settling the night not far from the old centre of the Chimu kingdom. The pre Inca culture of the Chimu and their ancient capital Chan Chan is the largest adobe city known, covering close to 16sq km on the outskirts of Trujillo. We are guided through the pre Chimu, Moche temple of the moon, which has great colourful artwork that is still being rediscovered today in all its vibrant glory.
**Day 13 & 14:** We leave the north and head for the Spanish founded capital of Lima. The “City of the Kings” as it was known was founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535. Nowadays The Peruvian capital has much to offer the traveller, from the old colonial centre and its many mansions and churches, to the changing of the guard at the Presidential Palace and if bars, restaurants are what you’re after, the more affluent areas around Mira Flores will be able to keep you interested. This is the ending point of our tour.
