9 Day Cairns to Cape York

Day 1 - Cairns to Cooktown (L/D) After pick ups around 7.00am we travel up the scenic coastline past Port Douglas and Mossman to reach the Daintree - Cape Tribulation National Park area. If weather permits we tackle the steep “Bloomfield Track?and cross the Bloomfield River then into the dense mountainous rainforests of Cedar Bay (If it is to wet then we have to go around the ‘Inland?road). A short visit at historic Lions Den Pub we view the Black Mountain area then on to Historic Cooktown here we visit Grassy Hill and visit some of the towns landmarks.(Toilets & Showers) Day 2 - Cooktown to Normanby River (B/L/D) Today we visit the historic Old Laura Homestead and the New Laura Ranger Station on our way through the Lakefield National Park with its tremendous wildlife, Ibis, Bustards, Jabirus, Brolgas, Pigs, Crocodiles etc camping at Normanby River. (Toilet & Showers) Day 3 - Normanby River to Coen (B/L/D) We travel through the entire length of this 1.6 Million acre National Park visiting many water holes with an abundance of wildlife eventually arriving at Musgrave for a short break before heading on to camp at Coen. (Toilets & Showers) Day 4 - Coen to Weipa (B/D) We depart early and arrive around lunch time at Weipa. Here there is a chance to do some washing and a little shopping or an option of afternoon fishing is available. (Toilets & Showers)

Day 5 - Weipa to Wenlock River (B/L/D) A Bauxite Mine and town tour is recommended in the morning (own expense) then we head out eventually camping on the Wenlock River. (Bush Toilet & Swim) Day 6 - Wenlock River to Twin Falls (B/L/D) Today see the unbelievable Gunshot Creek crossing as we drive through the spectacular Heathland National Park arriving at Twin Falls to camp. Here we take a hike, swim, relax and enjoy the unbelievably spectacular series of waterfalls including the Elliot, Twin and Indian Head Falls. (Pit Toilet & Swim) Day 7 - Twin Falls to Cape York (B/L/D) Today we traverse more of the old ‘Telegraph Track? crossing the Jardine River by ferry then travelling on to our camp overlooking the Torres Strait. (Toilets & Showers) Day 8 - Cape York (B/D) There is an option today of a day tour to Thursday Island - (own expense) a bus tour is available on the island. Other options on this day are Fishing, a joy flight over the Torres Strait or just relax on the beach.(Toilets and Showers) Day 9 - Cape York to Cairns (B/L) After a sleep in, we drive to the top of Australia and enjoy an exciting walk to the actual tip. After many photographs we visit Somerset and other historical areas before travelling to Bamaga to catch our afternoon flight back to Cairns arriving at approx. 6.00pm.

9 DAY CAPE YORK FLY / DRIVE ADVENTURE
ITINERARY: Day 1 - Cairns to Cape York (LD) Your scenic flight leaves Cairns around 7.00am for Bamaga. After a town tour we drive to the top of Australia and enjoy a beautiful walk to the actual tip. After many photographs we visit Somerset and other historical areas we then travel on to our camp overlooking the Torres Strait. (Toilets and Showers) Day 2 - Cape York (BD) Today you have the option of a day tour to Thursday Island - a bus tour is available on the island. Other options on this day are Fishing or a joy flight over the Torres Strait. (Toilets and Showers) Day 3 - Cape York to Twin Falls (B/L/D) We travel across the Jardine River by Ferry then traversing the old Telegraph Track we arrive at Twin Falls. (Bush Toilet & Swim) Day 5 - Wenlock River to Weipa (B/D) We depart early eventually getting onto good roads and arriving around lunch time at Weipa. This afternoon you can do some washing and a little shopping, also fishing is available. (Toilets & Showers) Day 6 - Weipa to Coen (B/L/D) A Bauxite Mine and town tour is available in the morning - own expense then we continue our journey south, camping tonight at Coen. (Toilets & Showers). Day 7 - Coen to Normanby River (B/L/D) We travel south until Musgrave when we turn east and start experiencing the beautiful Lakefield National Park with its tremendous wildlife, Ibis, Bustards, Jabirus, Brolgas, Pigs, Crocodiles etc. camping by the Normanby River. ( Toilet & Showers) Day 8 - Normanby River to Cooktown (B/L) We explore more of the Park area passing New Laura Ranger Station and visit the historic Old Laura Homestead arriving early to explore Cooktown. (Toilets & Showers) Day 9 - Cooktown to Cairns (B/L) After visiting Grassy Hill and viewing some of the towns landmarks we visit the notorious Black Mountain area. The historic Lions Den Pub then (weather permitting) into the dense mountainous rainforest of Cedar Bay, Cape Tribulation National Parks crossing the Bloomfield River and then tackling the steep Bloomfield Track. We visit Cape Tribulation itself, onto the Daintree Ferry and then arriving in Cairns at approx. 6.00pm.
