6 Day Southern Ireland Tour
Prices from around $310

**DAY 1: DUBLIN - GALWAY**
Leaving the capital behind we follow CromwellÂ’s orders and head west ''to hell or to Connaught''. On the outskirts of the city we drop in on the Phoenix Park which covers 1752 acres, is home to a herd of 300 or so deer and is surrounded by a 7 mile long wall. Next is a visit to Lockes Distillery in Kilbeggan, yum, yum. Our next stop is at Clonmacnoise monastic settlement on the banks of the river Shannon. Founded by St. Ciaran in the 6th Century, itÂ’s home to a great selection of early Christian churches, Celtic crosses and burial slabs. And then weÂ’re in Galway - a university city, famous for the arts, the Galway Races and the Clarinbridge Oyster festival.

**DAY 2: GALWAY - TRALEE**
We travel to Tralee via Co. Clare taking in the Burren, a famous exposed limestone area and one of Europe''s richest botanical areas. Next on the agenda are the Cliffs of Moher – the most famous cliffs in Ireland, six miles long and reaching to 700ft at their highest point. Then it’s on to Lahinch, a beach town very popular with surfers. Travel from County Clare to County Kerry by ferry across the Shannon, Ireland''s biggest river. Finally today we visit Tralee - home of the International Rose of Tralee Festival, held for one week every August.

**DAY 3: TRALEE **
Today we travel to Dingle town. This is a lively, colourful, fishing village and home to Fungi, the famous dolphin who has been hanging out in Ireland since 1984. We then drive to Slea Head on the Dingle Peninsula, the most westerly point in Ireland. This is one of the best drives in Ireland with various prehistoric and early Christian remains and stunning scenery. Scenery has been used in movies such as ''Far and away'' and ''Ryan''s Daughter. Finally today we visit the Gallarus Oratory, a 10th century stone church and the most complete of its kind in Ireland. And although built of unmortared stone, it''s still waterproof today.

**DAY 4: TRALEE - West CORK**
On our way to Killarney we visit Muckross Abbey beside the Lakes of Killarney taking in some spectacular scenery with Ireland''s highest mountains, Macgillycuddy''s Reeks and a visit to Torc Waterfall on the way. En route to Kenmare we pass some more amazing scenery, driving over Moll''s Gap and Lady''s View. We then have a lovely mountain drive over Caha mountains which divide Kerry from Cork. We pass through Glengariff or the ''Rugged Glen'', which is warmed by the Gulf Stream with subtropical plants/trees and Drombeg Stone Circle which is more than two thousand years old. We end up tonight in Clonakilty, West Cork, near the former home of Michael Collins, one of the most influential figures in the foundation of our State.

**DAY 5: CORK - KILKENNY**
Cork''s countryside is dotted with ancient castles, the most famous of which is Blarney Castle. This is a 15th century castle, home to the Blarney Stone which gives all who kiss it the gift of the gab. En route to Kilkenny we stop at the Rock of Cashel and its soaring 13th century Cathedral of Saint Patrick dramatically overshadowing the town of Cashel. Kilkenny Town is next up. It was once the seat of medieval Irish Parliaments and rivaled Dublin in importance. It is also home to a famous medieval castle built in 1192 and many examples of architecture from the middle ages.

**DAY 6: KILKENNY - DUBLIN**
We leave Kilkenny and travel to Dublin. First stop today is the Browneshill Dolmen - the biggest dolmen in Ireland with many mystical connections. Then itÂ’s on to County Wicklow with its wonderful landscape of mountainous bog land, woods, vales, lakes and mountain streams and little winding roads used for many centuries by pilgrims travelling to the monastic centre of Glendalough or the ''Valley of the Two Lakes'' founded by St. Kevin 1400 years ago. Finally we travel back to Dublin through the Wicklow Mountains
